Research shows that how much readers understand about the text’s topic before they read it is a major factor in how much they understand during and after they read it. Therefore, it is beneficial to teach critical background knowledge before diving into a larger topical unit.

Then the students define the word based on the images. Next you show the true kid-friendly definition and image slide. Students are more likely to remember the vocabulary words using this technique.

If you choose to share electronically, the passages are set up with 45 slides to read on electronic devices, and 42 slides for review with fill-in-the-blank questions and answers (immediately after each question).
